Industry bodies

The Australasian Bottled Water Institute (ABWI), founded in 1996, is the peak industry association & certification organisation for water bottlers and suppliers in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands. Membership is voluntary, and the Institute and its members state their aims as to:

  • Promote the use of bottled water
  • Assist members to fulfill and if possible exceed government requirements, and to attain and maintain the highest standards of quality.
  • Encourage self-regulation and foster technical expertise within the industry.
  • Represent members' interests to government regulators and the media.
  • Communicate with other international bottled water industry groups, and stay abreast of overseas trends and developments.
  • Act as an authoritative source of information on all types of bottled water production, quality issues, industry trends, and consumer issues.

Environmental Groups

The Bottled Water Alliance aims to reduce bottled water sales by 20% in 2010, and the money spent on it by $100m per annum.
